Here is a lovely selection of Audibles for you. Coming of Age, Sweet Romance. Historical Romance. Mystery.  Thriller. Suspense. Contemporary, Young Adult and Westerns.  All written by indie authors who know how to tell a story and narrated by top professionals.

Starting you off with The Bride Wore Dead by Emily Kaplan. Snarky food critic Josie Tucker can barely hold on to her lunch, never mind her job. She’s tagged as replacement bridesmaid for a society wedding. The bride does not survive the honeymoon. Josie finds herself the target of the rich and dangerous.  Highly Recommended. Series.

Award-winning Jacquie Biggar offers you a cozy mystery, The lady Said No. Detective Augustus Grant is faced with his most baffling case yet when a respected race horse breeder John Jorgenson, is murdered in his den only days before the Kentucky Derby. Complicating matters, Gus’s ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Hayes, is the last person to have seen the victim alive. Evidence points to Rebecca. Gus is torn between duty and what his heart tells him. Series.

A. J. Lape is giving us Grade A Stupid featuring one my all time favorite heroines, Darcy Walker.  Darcy Walker’s name means “dark walker.” Whether her parents’ choice was a stroke of genius or smacked of stupid, they definitely nailed the irony. Darcy lacks direction. Distracts easily. And despite a high IQ, her grades stink.  Valley High’s reigning misfit, she’s also infatuated with a bad boy.  Darcy cuts class and stumbles upon a corpse in a dumpster. From there, things go high-octane because in a world full of nouns, Darcy’s a verb and hardwired for action. She gets caught up in the middle of the mystery and can’t let go. Series.

For a change of pace, Suzanne G. Rogers gives us a sweet historical, Rake and Romance. Juliet’s plans to wed Lord Elbourne comes to naught when she discovers he’s obliged to wed an heiress instead. To salvage her dignity, she enters into a ruse with the heiress’s brother, Cody Gryphon, whom she views as a rake. He’s also the most attractive man she’s ever met. But Cody has an agenda. He wants to marry his sister to Lord Elbourne. Juliet’s ruse may backfire in unexpected ways.

Now here is one of my all time favorite romance novels, Reclaim My Heart by Donna Fasano. Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her 15-year-old son is in trouble with the law, and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to her son’s biological Dad, the high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined because scandalous secrets are waiting to be revealed and disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Multi-cultural. Highly recommended.

For Western aficionados, Sarah Mallery knocks it out of the park with The Dolan Girls.  With this Audible you’ll be in the heart of 1800 Nebraska.  Whorehouse madams, ladies of the night, a schoolmarm, a Pinkerton detective, a Shakespeare-quoting old coot, brutal outlaws, and a horse-wrangler fill out the cast of characters. Added to the mix are colorful descriptions of an 1856 land rush, Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show, Annie Oakley, bank/train robberies, small town local politics, and, of course, romance. Two, in fact! Don’t miss this audible.

You won’t want to miss a word of The Plot by Anca-Melinda Coliolu. Once Yoko Hirano escapes human trafficking, she’s focuses on exacting revenge and saving other girls from the fate she suffered. Yoko’s grand scheme doesn’t involve falling in love, but Mark Chandler, a man with his own secrets, is taken with his beautiful new employee. These two misfits join forces to take down the leader of the human trafficking mob. Twists and turns in this page turner lead to a fabulous love story.

Remembering the Beatles. Piper Templeton entertains with slice of life stories by Ellen in Rain Clouds and Waterfalls.  Via a Beatle’s song or event, each tale reminds us of our journey into womanhood as we search for friendship, acceptance and love. As you listen to Ellen you will be smiling and nodding your head because we are all ‘Ellen’ in one fashion or another. Wisdom in hindsight, insight and humor mark each story. This audible travels far beyond our drive to and from work.

Laurie Boris gives voice to an emotional work of art in Drawing Breath.  Thirty-four-year old art teacher Daniel Benedetto, diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, has out-lived his expiration date. Yet Daniel is determined to give all he can to his students and his own works. He accepts teenager, Caitlin  as a private student, the budding teen painter watches in torment as other people, especially women, treat Daniel like a freak because of his condition. To Caitlin, Daniel is not a disease, not someone to pity or take care of but someone to care for, a friend, and her first real crush. This novel is well done. Caitlin emerges as caring and sensitive even as Daniel fails.

To top off our list of sensational Audio Books, here’s Finding Home by Moi, Jackie Weger. Twenty-four-year-old Phoebe Hawley is on a quest to find her family a home. On the road with two siblings, 12-year-old Maydean and five-year-old Willie-Boy, Phoebe is out of money, out of gas and out of patience. Now the only things she owns in abundance are Hawley backbone and Hawley pride – neither of which she can trade for food or gas. A collision with Gage Morgan puts Phoebe’s mission in even worse jeopardy – until Phoebe discovers Gage Morgan owns the perfect place for the Hawley clan. But! Gage Morgan is the unlikeliest man in the universe to succumb to her schemes. Phoebe wields all of the pride, backbone, and country smarts she owns to claim his home, plow his land, and pilfer his heart. Nothing works. With time running against her family, she plies one last inducement – her scarce feminine wiles. And those are not a sure thing. $7.49. ebook: 99c.
