New Release…on Sale… and a few other tidbits to share….

Good evening readers and fans. I am so sorry I have been neglecting you. Indie authorship is a steep learning curve and I’m still finding my way.  I do want to share some news.  I have created my first boxed set with my three most popular novels to date. Erin Dameron-Hill designed a sensational cover. Monday, May 04, 2015 is the official launch of Setting Up House,  priced at  99¢ through Mother’s Day, May 10.

Are You Superstitious?

Jackie Weger

Superstitious Author,
Jackie Weger

I am superstitious. I can’t help it. I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t  sit on a bed after it is made to perfection and I have heart failure if any visitor to my home does. Pull the covers down first if you need to nap. That’s fine.  Okay.  So now I’m a writer. I need good luck along with craft and a few good author pals. I have a keeper who likes to nap. And I have cats for the first time in my life. Cats are no respecters of superstition. I don’t make the bed up any more. There is good luck, bad luck and no luck. Not making up my bed guarantees NO LUCK.  I’m good with it.  The cats are good with it and my keeper is good with it–or maybe not, but I didn’t ask his opinion.

Happily Ever After–Just for Today

Jackie Weger

Jackie Weger

For the first time in my life this week I shopped online for something other than a book.  I saw a pair of fab shoes on a Bingo pal last week and she told me she  got  them on Amazon.  I’m a writer.  I live on Amazon, but it never occurred to me to shop for clothes, or jewelry or shoes.  Now it does.   I’ve had a good week.  Actually, I’ve had a good month thus far. I got a nice royalty check, I won two back-to-back jackpots at Bingo, everybody I know is alive and well and my latest book is on my editor’s desk getting its last soft edit and final proof. Here’s the snag. My writing cave needs a good cleaning. My desk is a wreck. But I’m superstitious. I don’t clean it or move a single piece of paper or note or list of words or character outlines or bits of  dialogue or my dictionaries until the finished book is published.  So! I need something else to clean.

RoadBlocks to Indie Author Success

Jackie Weger

Jackie Weger

Here I am again on my back porch in my cyber rocking chair–and no company. Last time I was out here, it was storming. Today everyone I invited is up to Fourth of July festivities. It is a little over a year now that I have been an indie author. I’ve learned about the ropes, the hopes and the dopes.

My Goose is Ticked—But You ain’t Cookin’ it!

gooseWe’re coming off rains and floods in Texas so I don’t have company for a Back Porch CyberChatter. I’m just going to talk to myself out loud—you can listen in.

A blog on Indies Unlimited titled After the Gold Rush ticked my goose. It blogs the same old lament  we’ve been hearing for the past year and a half, The Golden Age of best selling ebooks is over. Left unsaid, but inferred: Jeff Bezos changed the algorithms on Amazon, so a book cannot not hit the bestseller list after a FREE promotion and the title returns to Paid.

Big Al’s Books and Pals Reader’s Choice Awards 2014

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image20360723

Thanks BigAl

A nice thing happened on the way to my keyboard last Sunday. I got a note from Big Al’s Books and Pals that Flaps Down-The Reluctant Hero has been nominated for a Reader’s Choice Award in Romance category. The nomination is an honor twice over. Big Al’s Books and Pals is the premier Review Blog in our indie universe. Almost the instant I dipped my toe into indie publishing I learned if Big Al says you have a book–you do. If he says you don’t, he doesn’t pull any punches telling you why not.

Back Porch Cyber Chatter: Carolyn Steele

Carolyn Steele

Carolyn Steele

I came across Carolyn Steele on Indies Unlimited. She wrote an article that landed in my inbox at the very moment I needed some help to get my web page and blog presentable. As you can see, she did a fabulous job.

Carolyn also got the digital kinks out of an ebook. Mind you, I had already paid a substantial sum to a publishing service that promised my file would be perfection. It wasn’t. It took Carolyn less than a day to fix the glitches. She’s beta reading two other manuscripts for me and making corrections so that readers won’t be lifted out of a story because of my carelessness or a formatting mishap.  So, let me introduce you…
