What’s Your Beef?

The Naysayer’s Rant

Golly.  Not a day goes by that I don’t read a  blog spewing unhappy rhetoric about Amazon, KindleUnlimited subscriptions and KENP. I was going to quote a blog post today before I responded here, but wisely I visited Amazon and looked at the author’s book ranks. Here they are:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #843,296

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #588,727

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #690,870

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,959,586

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,371,610

416,732 KENP pages read in October, 2015 + 400 units sold. Figures accurate to 10/20/15.

      New Release Promoted w/o reviews

New Release Promoted w/o reviews

In spite of what you hear and read on author blogs, Linkedin, on Facebook pages, author forums, and chat rooms, you darn sure can promote your book without a review. How such toxic information managed to find such a poisonous and penetrating life in our indie author universe is beyond me.  I am weary of listening to it and I’d like to put it to bed. Here is the single complaint that plagues me the most:

What’s Doin’ with Your Books in 2015?

Striking a Balance

100+ Reviews

2014 has been a rip of a year in our indie universe. New promotion sites went online, Amazon tossed Kindle Unlimited into the mix in July  and the frenzy of Christmas books and collections literally swept the boards clean, and  indie authors have been trying to figure out the market ever since. Now the question is: What can you do in 2015 to get a slice of  the indie pie and put your books in front of readers?

The first rule: Promote.

The Perils of Pauline vs Indie Authorship

Jackie Weger

Jackie Weger

Do you remember silent films? And poor Pauline tied to the railroad tracks, a huge black locomotive chugging toward her, the train whistle blasting and the music thundering? I forget the hero who always rescued Pauline… I liken digital publishing to the Perils of  Pauline–except  we don’t have a lovely hero…we have to rescue ourselves when our careers or books are on the edge of a cliff on in front of that dang train bearing disaster upon us. I just this week rescued No Perfect Secret  and a blot on my career within minutes of a train wreck.

Indie Mystery Writer Rivals Agatha Christie

A Gourmet Demise

A Gourmet Demise ~ Murder in South Tampa

Enthralling  is the single word  that best expresses this new mystery author’s talent. IMO  A Gourmet Demise is equal to or better than Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. Christie’s most popular book is a classic. I love the Orient Express. It is my all time favorite mystery. Now, to my delight I have discovered a contemporary  mystery writer who has produced a book with all of the class and cachet of  Murder on the Orient Express.  L. A. Lewandowski is an indie author.  She  owns a dinner club in Tampa, Florida and she has her finger on the pulse that fabulous city. Moreover, the woman can write. Oh, my goodness.

Cover Reveal-The Merry-Go-Round

The Merry-Go-Round
by Donna Fasano
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 2, 2009

When Lauren divorces her husband, she has one thought on her mind…stepping off the merry-go-round. However, her life quickly turns into a three-ring circus: her hypochondriac father moves in, her ex is using her shower when she’s not home, and her perky assistant is pushing her out into the fearsome dating world. She also has to decide if the dilapidated barn and vintage merry-go-round she was awarded in the divorce settlement is a blessing or a bane. As if Lauren’s personal life isn’t chaotic enough, this slightly jaded attorney is overrun with a cast of quirky characters who can’t stay on the right side of the law. What’s a woman to do? She can allow life to spin her in circles forever. Or she can reach out and grab the brass ring.
