Falling Leaves Giveaway~ Usefull things plus an array of Great Books

Hello all of you awesome people and welcome new subscribers to Accent on Romance.

Before we get to the wonderful array of books and our special Falling Leaves Giveaway, which by my lights are super special, I want to introduce you to Morris, the Feral Cat.  He showed up on our back deck a few weeks ago, skinny and perhaps elderly, and hasn’t left. Won’t. He’s the spiritual image of another Feral, Big Red, who was with us for five years.  Big Red refused to come in the house during rain, sleet, freeze or flood.  He spent his old age lounging on a step railing. We lost him to a coyote.  Morris has his sweet personality, adores a belly scratch, and kindly grooms our fifteen-year-old house cat, Allie Mae. Happy Days on our back deck.

Book Talk ~ Pocketful of Bones

Pocketful of Bones

Brilliant. Inventive. Dark.

Telling you up front I don’t often talk out loud about books I read by my colleagues. Yet once in a while along comes a book that knocks my socks off.  Some indie-authored books I read show raw talent that need polish, although most are well-written and entertaining–which is what a fiction book should be. I’m a writer. I’m a published author. My stories are not going to set the world on fire or earn a million dollars. I don’t expect them to do so. But I know a story teller when I come across one. C.S. Forester is a story teller. His 126 page novel, The African Queen, that I first bought for 35c was made into an unforgettable movie. Canadian author Farley Mowat is a story teller. Even his non-fiction enthrall because they are so honest.

Why Do Authors Make Their Books FREE?

This question pops often in forums… Here are the answers often posted…

  • Because they don’t know any better
  • To maximize downloads because they don’t care about money
  • Advisers telling newbies giveaways are the best career decision
  • People think the author is begging for sales
  • Because the books are worthless
  • I never price any of my books for free

FACT: None of these answers are helpful and some are out right lies by omission. Take the last on the list. The author who never prices books for free–can’t! Nope. That author is under contract and has NO control over the price of his/her books. I checked. And all are sucking mud to China in stats…perhaps selling one or two a year.
